Sam Street Junior Class 1 Mini |
Sam's father, Tim contacted us and asked if we would be interested in building their engines for next season. We said yes we would, and went off to collect the donor engine for the new build. Well, imagine our faces when the tarp was removed to reveal this sorry looking lump! Reckon we are gonna need a fair bit of fairy dust sprinkled over this!! Tim
wants a JRE engine in a fully reconditioned subframe ready to just drop
in the car, and a another unit as a spare in case they have trouble at
a meeting. Much easier to just replace the whole unit if time is tight.
The
work on the Mini has started a bit sooner than we thought as Tim called
so say Sam had been involved in a shunt, which left the car in need of
repair and could we do it before this weekends meeting at Wessex. Tim and Sam managed to get it going again, with the help of some heavy duty gear! ![]() The car is in the workshop and we get stuck in. Lots of information about this car and driver at www.rebelracers.co.uk Damaged parts removed and new ones attached. A thin coat of primer and white paint. A tiny sprinkle of fairy dust over the engine and we are ready to race again!! Wessex Race Day 29th August 2010. Overcast with a chance of showers and a cold wind greet us at the track. Sam and Tim do the pre-race checks and the racing starts. Sam has a very good day with wins in all three heats and the final. It does not get better than that! For more information on Sam go to www.samsmini.co.uk http://www.samsmini.co.uk/Video_2010.html 24th October 2010 Sam is the 2010 Southern League Junior Champion! (that's the good news) Bad news is the car is to be stripped and checked at post scrutineering. Well it has been taken apart, and checked, and it is all ok. Now the big rebuild commences for 2011. Sams
dad, Tim has asked us to build Sam a new car for 2011, with them
helping source a load of bits as well as doing all the roll cage work. Below is the new donor shell being prepped for a trip to the shot blaster. This is the engine being rebuild to fit to the 2010 car which Tim will drive. The block is cleaned and honed, and primed for painting. Crankshaft refitted. Pistons fitted and mounted onto the gearbox. More bits bolted on! New clutch plate and pressure plate, and cover bolted on. Timing sorted, cover fitted and new water pump. Cylinder head and rockers fitted. Tappets set to .012 thou. Nice alloy rocker cover! The 2010 car has arrived for us to complete the build. The work begins. You're not gonna try and put that in here!! Oh yes we are........and looking good. Hmm...Boss Hog! Whatever next. Car is complete and ready for a trip to the rollers! Quite a good session, the engine stayed in one piece despite Pete trying to destroy it! Power and torque figures are ok. The new car for 2011. Bodyshell blasted and in primer waiting for the cage and shiny paint! The engine is taken apart! Just hope this ugly caterpillar turns into a beautiful butterfly! The gearbox has been cleaned, checked and painted. Block cleaned, ready for rebore and painting. The careful rebuild begins. Wonder what they are going to call this one! Its all in the timing.... Rear subframe and suspension fitted Front subframe and steering rack fitted New rear brake shoes, drums and wheel cylinders. Well, now we know what this engine is called! The front suspension build continues. Brake and Clutch cylinders and Fuel tank fitted And battery box.

Lots of pictures and video at Rebel Racers May 2011 Daisy Duke is in the workshop to have a few minor problems sorted. 2012 Sam moves up into the Mens class now and will be running a Class 1 Mini and a Class 4 Mini Pick up. It is going to be a hard season as the competition is a lot tougher at this level. Daisy Duke is the chosen car for the Class 1 assault and the engine is being prepared. Below is the new gearbox after the diff exploded in the last event of 2011. Some of the internals, just checking to make sure they are ok. Timing cover cleaned and painted awaiting a new seal.
