Marks 2 litre 16 valve Ford Zetec engine build! |
Mark runs a modified space frame Saxo in the Bourne club. He wants to move up to 2 litre power next season and asked us to build him an engine over the rest of this year. This way he can spread the cost of the engine by paying for it monthly rather than one lump sum. This is the donor engine. The strip down begins. Looks ok. Coming apart nicely. ![]() Nice set of cams! Work begins on porting the stripped down cylinder head. This takes many hours to get the results we need. Midway point of the first exhaust port. The aim is to build a high torque engine. Well, thats the first of the exhaust ports done, should get a fair bit more flow through that! Below
are a few pics of the Saxo this engine will be fitted to at the start
of next season. Mark is also planning to move to the Wessex Club, so we
will be able to report on the progress of the car. The engine rebuild commences! The block is cleaned, honed and painted. Work continues on the head ports. Starting to look good. After some issues with the head not being the same year as the block, we had to modify the cam belt system to make it all fit. Nearly ready for fitting now. Engine placed in the bay and the solid mounts adjusted to fit. Making sure the driveshafts have enough movement is vital to placing the engine correctly. Coil springs are removed to allow the wheel to be placed at normal running height. Carbs and inlet manifold fitted Exhaust manifold fabricated, and airbox fitted. Air intake system sorted, Fuel tank and radiator fitted. 2011 was a good first season for Mark, with the car being very quick off the line. We need to sort the handling for next season, but the engine gave no trouble at all. A new colour scheme and more power for 2012. Race rear wheels will be painted black to match the fronts.
