Matt's 1293cc Mini Cooper.

Matt's Mini Cooper SPi developed a noisy layshaft in the gearbox. Matt pulled the engine out and asked us to have a look. Well, things just progressed really, the engine was stripped and the gearbox was sent to
The Guessworks, in exchange for a rebuild unit.
Much cheaper than doing the repair ourselves.

The engine showed signs of high mileage wear and tear, and a full rebuild was decided on, adding a bit more power in the process.
The block was checked and sent for deglazing, and new .020 rings were fitted. New shells and thrusts added, plus a centre oil pick up pipe, which is essential for preventing oil pressure loss in high speed corners.               A 286 Kent cam was installed to compliment the head and a duplex timing gear kit was added.

The cylinder head was modified by us and .035 skimmed off. Valves were lapped in and a 44 HIF SU carb fitted instead of the single point injection. A 3 into 1 Cooper exhaust manifold into a 2 inch single silencer system supplies the music!
The Mems ECU still controls the sparks. Performance is astounding considering the mild state of tuning with the engine pulling strongly from 2500 rpm up to 7000 rpm. The sound of the air intake above 4500 rpm is amazing.

A power run and carb set up is planned at Sigma Engineering of Gillingham, Dorset soon, and then we will be able to state torque and horse power figures.
